It’s almost 10 years to the day that cycle movie You Never Bike Alone premiered at the Rio Theatre during a Vancouver snow storm.

The 82-minute documentary has held up well over time, in large part because of the way it captures the emergence of cycling as a form of mass transportation in the west coast Canadian city and a source of just plain fun.

You Never Bike Alone is now on the Cinema Politica network.

Cinema Politica describes itself as "a Montreal-based media arts, non-profit network of community and campus locals that screen independent political film and video by Canadian and international artists throughout Canada and abroad."

You Never Bike Alone joins Brave New Theaters network

You Never Bike Alone is now part of the Brave New Theaters network.

The user-driven network was started by activist director Robert Greenwald, who has made a name for himself for his pioneering distribution strategies as much as his politically charged documentaries like Outfoxed and WalMart: The High Cost of Low Price.

He and his company Brave New Films have been at the forefront of self-distribution techniques, using the web and a huge activist network to launch new releases on thousands of community screens across North America.

You Never Bike Alone is an 80 minute documentary looking at how cyclists are building critical mass in Vancouver, Canada, and changing the face of the city. The Filmmakers

You Never Bike Alone is produced, written, directed and edited by journalist Robert Alstead for icycle.ca productions Ltd.

A long-time cyclist, he has worked on numerous short films and documentary projects. In You Never Bike Alone he weaves together footage shot by himself and by bicycle activists over the course of around a decade.

Soundtrack

The eclectic soundtrack on You Never Bike Alone brings together rhythmic, ambient electronica from Hungary, surf music out of the Netherlands, deep dub from Poland and Denmark, and reggae beats and ska by Vancouver's own Roots Roundup and Dubfreque.
